‘Dirt Rich’ Field Event on Soil Biology, Cows, Cover Crops & Profit
Posted: Thu, May 19, 2016
Practical Farmers of Iowa and the Pasture Project are hosting a workshop and field day on May 23. Our theme, “Dirt Rich”, highlights our Conservation Innovation Grant (CIG) project that combines cover crops and grazing, to accelerate improvements in soil health. We will spend the morning discussing the importance of soil biology, testing methods and sharing ideas on how we can speed adoption of soil building practices by farmers. In the afternoon will look at two fields that are part of our local demonstration and be able to compare how different practices are impacting the soil.
The morning session will start at 8:00am in Decorah, IA with breakfast, ending around noon with lunch. The morning session will be held at Winneshiek Wildberry Winery, 1966 337th Street, Decorah, IA 52101.
We will then carpool to Olaf Haugan’s farm in Canton, MN for the first of two stops in the afternoon. Click here for more information.
