Local Food and Farm Crawl, Sept 17-18
Posted: Tue, August 30, 2016
The public is invited to visit ten local farms during the 4th Annual Taste of Northeast Iowa Local Food and Farm Crawl from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 17 and 18. The event is free and for all ages.
Twelve independent family owned businesses or farming operations are jointly hosting open houses. Participants will learn how local farmers grow, process and handle their food on this self-guided tour with stops in Allamakee, Winneshiek, Fayette and Chickasaw counties.
“Explore the farms, meet the farmers, see demonstrations, sample the goodies, purchase locally grown and produced products, and have lots of fun in this part of the Driftless Region,” said Teresa Wiemerslage, local food coordinator for ISU Extension and Outreach and the NE Iowa Food and Farm Coalition (NIFF). “The farms are all within an easy drive of each other.”
Host farms include Prairie's Edge Farm, Peake Orchards, Empty Nest Winery, WW Homestead Dairy, Iowa Food Hub, Growing Greener 4-H Greenhouse, Hawkeye Buffalo Ranch, K&K Gardens, Country View Dairy, Shrimptastic, Gordon's Gardens and Apples on the Avenue.
